What's best - Waze, Google Maps or GPS?

Bonnes Routes is all about the driving. Our route planning skills were put to the test on our recent road trip around South East France. We used Google Maps to share the meticulously planned routes with Team UK to drive some superb roads (see previous news for our routes). Our car used Google Maps, and as we were leading, this was backed up by a Garmin GPS. On our return trip we decided to have a competition between Google Maps, Garmin GPS and Waze to see which one performed best. So what was the verdict?

1232 Miles of French Heaven

While we live in a lovely part of France with some great driving roads we thought it was about time for a road trip of our own in April. We joined up with some petrol-head friends who were driving from the UK to Monaco and back in five days! This called from some serious route planning, which was one of our original inspirations for Bonnes Routes.

We planned to meet up with Team UK at Grenoble to drive Route Napoleon. So not only did we plan our own route, we also provided the route planning for the four cars we were joining. Many hours of street-viewing roads on Google to see if the roads were suitable, and poring over Michelin maps to find the green scenic routes, resulted in numerous Google Map routes with routing points (to pick the best roads), and catch-up stops (for if the cars got separated).

Roc Branlant and the Devil

Having enjoyed many a walk around Grand Etang de Saint-Estèphe, we have often passed the sign for 'Boucle de Grand Roc' and finally followed the loop to discover the Roc Branlant (Wobbly Rock) and Chapelet du Diable (Devil's Rosary). The 'granite chaos' stretches 250m along La Doue stream and is a magnificent geological site. Read on to find out about the history and the myths related to this wonderful sight, and how to get here.

Okay. It’s taken me a year but we finally have a rear end, the air cooling system, and some seats. It’s looking great! Although I’ve had to order a piece of leather to finish the seat bolster so hopefully that will arrive quickly. ?
