‘you/yours’ means the hirer and his/her party.

‘we/us’ means Bonnes Routes Gîte / Stephen and Stephanie Barlow.

‘gîte’ refers to the gîte building, garden and terrace area, parking area and any services provided by us.

Booking & Payment

Bookings can be made by completing our Contact Form confirming details of your required arrival and departure dates, and the number of guests. We will email you within 24 hours to confirm availability and provide a Booking Form for you to complete and return (this will be pre-populated with the information you have provided and total costs). You must return the signed Booking Form within 48 hours unless otherwise agreed – after this time we may release the dates for other guests to book. Your booking is only fully secured once we have received the signed Booking Form and deposit as detailed below, and you have received email confirmation.

Bookings can be made online through third party agents:

  • Holiday France Direct (HFD): payment of your reservation fee with HFD will provisionally secure your booking. HFD will send us your booking request, which we will confirm within 48 hours. The booking is only fully secured once the deposit is received as below.

  • HomeAway, Holiday Lettings or Airbnb: the booking is confirmed once we accept your booking request through the third party website as per the terms and conditions available on their respective sites.

Direct bookings: a deposit of 25% of the total price is required within 48 hours of us receiving your signed Booking Form, unless otherwise agreed. The remaining 75% is payable at least six weeks before arrival. For late bookings (less than six weeks before arrival), full payment is required at the time of booking.

Holiday France Direct: the deposit (minus the reservation fee) is payable within 48 hours of us confirming your booking. The deposit required is 25% of the total price minus the initial fee paid to HFD. Balance payments and payments for late bookings are due as above for direct bookings.

Other third party sites: deposit/balance or full payments must be made in accordance with the terms and conditions shown on the third-party website.

Direct bookings: we will provide you with details of our bank account to make the deposit / balance payment by bank transfer, or PayPal account details. Payments via PayPal will attract an additional surcharge of 3.4% reflecting the transaction fees charged by PayPal. To minimise any additional cross-border fees, we have facilities for you to pay into UK or French bank and PayPal accounts.

Holiday France Direct: the initial reservation fee is payable as directed by the company, with additional deposit/balance payments made as above.

Other third party agents: payment is by credit / debit card or PayPal as per their individual arrangements.

Where a deposit has been paid, failure to pay the outstanding balance within seven days of the due date (six weeks prior to your rental start date) will result in your rental being suspended and the gîte will be re-advertised as available until we receive your payment. Should the gîte be re-let during this period, and your balance subsequently received, your balance will be refunded.

If you cancel the booking with us (or fail to pay the outstanding balance as above), the following charges will apply:

  • 43 days before arrival: 25 € admin fee;

  • 22 to 42 days before arrival: 25% of the full cost;

  • 7 to 21 days before arrival: 50% of the full cost;

  • 6 days or less before arrival: 75% of the full cost.

For bookings via other third-party internet sites, other terms may apply - see the cancellation policy that accompanied your booking or which is available on the third-party website.

A deposit of 250 € will be required, to be paid upon payment of the final balance before the booking commences.

If the gîte is found to be in the same condition as it was upon arrival, the deposit will be returned within 7 days of your departure date using the original payment method. Where damage is identified this will be photographed and documented and the lead guest contacted to resolve the issue and be advised of the amount of deposit to be forfeited and any other claim to be made. We reserve the right to retain all or some of the security deposit should the gîte be left excessively dirty or damaged.

For guests booking through other third party agents, the deposit is paid to the agent and will be returned according to their policy, less any deposit forfeited as above.

The Taxe de Sejour is a tourist tax which funds tourism development in the local area. Hotels and owners of holiday accommodation are required by law to collect this tax when renting rooms/property. Some accommodation providers include a standard rate in their overall price to cover this cost. However, as the tariff is based on the number of nights, number of people and classification of accommodation, we feel it is unfair for guests to subsidise other parties. We will therefore collect the Taxe de Sejour as a separate payment.

You may pay the due amount with the final balancing payment, or in cash upon arrival. We will confirm the total to be paid on your Booking Form once the number of guests is confirmed.

This does not apply to Airbnb or HomeAway customers who pay this tax when they book through the third-party website.

Due to the insurance arrangements in France, all guests are required to have Personal Liability insurance – for UK guests this will usually form part of a travel insurance policy. By entering into a booking, guests are confirming that they will have adequate insurance in place at the time of the rental.

Please treat our home with respect at all times. We know that plates and glasses can get dropped and food/drink can be spilled. In the event of accidents or damage you should tell us as soon as possible so we can respond quickly to minimise damage/stains etc. We will not normally charge guests for minor damage or breakages.

Should you find any part of the gîte, furnishings or equipment to be faulty or not working as expected, please notify us as soon as possible to enable us to resolve the issue. This will help ensure you have a safe and comfortable holiday, as well as limit any potential damage or problems.

You may complete this in advance and bring it with you, or may complete the form on arrival. We are required to keep this form for six months and hand over to the police and gendarmerie if requested.
